What is fibercement?  top
Autoclaved silicate based smooth or wooden textured fibercement sheet is a building material used to cladd exterior and interior walls of a building. It is produced from a mixture of natural cellulose fiber, cement and grained silica.

Does it contain any harmful components?  top
Fibercement is nature and human friendly material. It does not contain any harmful material to human or environment health. (Asbestos free) By passage of time or because of atmospheric conditions it does not release any harmful gas to health.

How long does it last?  top
Fibercement has long life due to its composition of raw materials. It hasn't been predicted a life for cement or quartz yet. So fibercement has theoretically everlasting life. Sheets are resistant to atmospheric conditions due to the autoclaving process.

Is it affected by UV, is it chemical resistant?  top
It is resistant against ultraviolet rays. It is also resistant against most chemical elements except lime solvent by reason of cement ingridient of fibercement. It is especially resistant to alkali materials.

Is it affected by cold or hot weather?  top
Resistant against atmospheric conditions. Extraction and contraction of fibercement is quite lower than similar materials.

Is it affected by rain, sea water or moisture?  top
Resistant against water and sea water moisture. So it is an appropriate material for the facades with these problems. Water absorption rate is lower than 25% which is quite lower than concrete buildings.

Does it help to thermal and sound insulation?  top
However fibercement is not designed for thermal or sound insulation, it has very good insulation values. Application with proper materials makes perfect insulation for the building.

Is it affected by fire?  top
A1 class fire resistant building material according to EN 13501-1.

How much does it weigh?  top
Its density is 1300 kg/m3. According to the design there is approx. 10 kg/m2 additional load.

Does it entail a risk during an earthquake?  top
Additional risk during an earthquake is relevant to the additional load. For facade cladding 10 mm thick fibercement is used generally. The density of fibercement is 1300 kg/m3. If plaster is used instead, it should be min. 30-40 mm thick and the density of plaster is 2000 kg/m3.So fibercement is lighter than plaster. If the building is plastered before fibercement, there is also min. additional risk which can be omitted. In case of application exterior thermal sheating which can be seen as an alternative to fibercement, there would be double layer plaster which would be heavy.

Can it be painted? Which paint should be used? How long does the paint last?  top
It can be painted with acrylic exterior paint and plastic based interior paint due to cement and silicate in its mixture. Oil based paints are not suggested.

Does it lengthen or shorten?  top
It can lengthen or shorten but the amount of it is min. comparing to similar materials. So there is no problem on joints.

What are the dimensions of the sheets?  top
Fibercement sheets are produced as 125 cm wide and 250 or 300 cm long. Textured sheets have thickness 6, 8, 10 and 12 mm. Smooth sheets have 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20 mm.

Is it only applicable to exterior wall facades?  top
Fibercement sheets can be used in both commercial and domestic applications on exterior and interior facades of buildings. Sheets can be used as a whole part or can be cut into pieces of the given dimensions. Sheets can also be groved of various dimensions depending on the demand. Most common application areas of fibercement can be listed as:

  • Interior and exteiror facade application in all type of buildings,
  • Partition wall in form of sandwich panel,
  • All interior and exterior decorative application as grooved sheets,
  • Suspended ceiling (6 mm),
  • Curtain wall underlayer,
  • In multiple-storey precast buildings as story floor material (16 mm),
  • Backer board under the roof (instead of OSB),
  • Backer board under the ceramic in wet areas,
  • Backer board under the flooring on foundation beton (no need for alum),
  • Decorative wooden textured interior cladding (panelling, etc.),
  • Application material under the eave and on the front side of the buildings,
  • Mould material,
  • Ground material for billboards,
  • Partition wall in wet areas (as PP foil laminated sheets),
  • Window and door frame,
  • Corner trim in the fibercement siding applications,
  • Composite panel element used with several cladding materials,
  • Sandwich panel used with insulation materials,
  • Decorative garden wall applications.

Why should I prefer fibercement?  top
Fibercement is an appropriate building material because of its excellent properties. (Fire resistant, paintable, water resistant, no harmful ingridients, long life, decorative, etc.) It has quite superior properties comparing to the alternative materials. It reduces the costs with lower labor requirement and makes it possible to form faultless facades.

When my facade is cladded by fibercement will I need additional plaster?  top
Since fibercement sheets have smooth surface plaster is not needed after application. Sheets will be ready to be painted.

What kind of designs can be made with fibercement sheets?  top
All kinds of designs can be easily applied to the facades by fibercement sheets with its smooth and textured views.

To which buildings can fibercement be applied?  top

  • Buildings that are currently being used.
  • Buildings that have concrete framework, (can be cladded by fibercement sheets with a special technique.)
  • Buildings that have bricks but no rough cast.
  • Buildings that have rough cast.
